bedtime snack

Smoked salmon pâté, peppered goat cheese, persian flatbread and sesame crackers, with a glass of Red Rooster Grand Chardonnay (unoaked).

Perfect end to a Whistler weekend, curled up on my couch watching foreign films on DVD.

officially out

It's 4:25 and I just finished off a big bag of cherries. I'm officially out of food now - nothing left of my lunch but a pile of pits and stems.

Better head out now so I don't get weak from hunger on my ride home, 'cause I finished off all the caramels too.

secret stash

I am slowly working my way through the dove caramels I stashed in the little seat bag on my bike, which is propped by my desk.

So much for my after-work ride treat!

birthday party

Tuesday was my god-daughter Sydney's 9th birthday.

Of course there was a birthday party, and I was Sydney's guest of honour. Likely because I was the only guest outside of immediate family. And, because I brought presents.

Sydney's younger sister Bonnie was in charge of planning the dinner menu.

The table was decorated for the festivities, and set with two cakes - one a round butter cake with vanilla icing and sprinkles; the other a red, yellow and green jello cake sprinkled with gummy shoes, frogs and Chupa Chups.

A plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies sat between the cakes. Two tiny ramekins - one filled with more of the little gummy shoes, and the other with mini smarties - awaited dishes of Neapolitan ice cream, still in the freezer.

We sat down to appetizers of tortilla chips and salsa, and crunchy Miss Vickie's sour cream and onion chips.

These were quickly followed by the main course - mini cheese pizzas, mini hawaiian pizzas, and bigger sausage and pepperoni pizzas - one with red peppers.

A selection of sodas - coke, diet coke and gingerale - accompanied this Festival of Carbs.

Needless to say, I had seconds of everything.

The sugar-fuelled blur of an evening was followed by the inevitable sugar crash.

I came home at 9:30 and fell onto my bed, sound asleep before I even had the chance to change into my PJs.

I belong in London - for the curry, no doubt

You Belong in London

You belong in London, but you belong in many cities... Hong Kong, San Francisco, Sidney. You fit in almost anywhere.
And London is diverse and international enough to satisfy many of your tastes. From curry to Shakespeare, London (almost) has it all!

copenhagen

A suprise Starbucks run with the Marketing boys and Chris, and I'm back at my desk with
- an extra hot soy latte (with raw sugar and cinnamon)
- a Copenhagen pastry that must weigh 5 pounds

Needed the coffee.

Not so much the Copenhagen, which I am eating slice by tiny slice, as my multi-grain oats and blueberries sit neglected in my lunchbag.

american food

Spent the August long weekend at my sister's place in Seattle. It was a family affair - 5 adults, 3 kids, and one dog squeezed into a cozy Wedgewood bungalow.

My healthy eating plan lasted 30 minutes - exactly the time it took to drive from the border to the Cinnabon at Bellis Fair, with its siren song (siren scent?) of hot, fresh buns and cream cheese frosting.

Some of the weekend's highlights:

Cinnabon Cinnamon Buns (2)
Buttery, salty, hot Giant Pretzels
Costco-sized bag of Tortilla Chips, with homemade salsa
Grilled Pork Burritos with Chipotle Sour Cream
Half a slab of Penuche Fudge, from Seattle Centre
2 bags of Dove Caramels
Taco Del Mar combo deal (2 Lemonade refills)
Pizza, Pizza, and more Pizza
Hot Dogs (not the veggie kind)
Pop
Plum Cake (homemade) - 3 pieces for breakfast
Ice Cream. Lots.
Many elaborate Coffee Drinks (cha ching)
Sangria (from a box), with Lime
Pinot Grigio (from a bottle)
A bowl of Cinnamon Puffins in Whole Milk (from my nephew)
Hershey peanut butter Kisses (from my other nephew)

Urrrrp.

Feelin' a little white and squishy, to say the least.
