birthday party

Tuesday was my god-daughter Sydney's 9th birthday.

Of course there was a birthday party, and I was Sydney's guest of honour. Likely because I was the only guest outside of immediate family. And, because I brought presents.

Sydney's younger sister Bonnie was in charge of planning the dinner menu.

The table was decorated for the festivities, and set with two cakes - one a round butter cake with vanilla icing and sprinkles; the other a red, yellow and green jello cake sprinkled with gummy shoes, frogs and Chupa Chups.

A plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies sat between the cakes. Two tiny ramekins - one filled with more of the little gummy shoes, and the other with mini smarties - awaited dishes of Neapolitan ice cream, still in the freezer.

We sat down to appetizers of tortilla chips and salsa, and crunchy Miss Vickie's sour cream and onion chips.

These were quickly followed by the main course - mini cheese pizzas, mini hawaiian pizzas, and bigger sausage and pepperoni pizzas - one with red peppers.

A selection of sodas - coke, diet coke and gingerale - accompanied this Festival of Carbs.

Needless to say, I had seconds of everything.

The sugar-fuelled blur of an evening was followed by the inevitable sugar crash.

I came home at 9:30 and fell onto my bed, sound asleep before I even had the chance to change into my PJs.
